Ceramic tile grouts
Ceramic tile grouts give you tile
settings a great finish. Here is some basic know-how on how to
install ceramic tile grouts:
-
In your walls, you’ll find places where there are
0.125 inch (or more) gap between tiles. To make sure
you’re not leaving any those places out; apply grouts
to fill them up.
-
If the gaps are too big, it is safe to apply sanded
floor tile grout. It is not a good idea to use wall
tile grouts on larger gaps- it tends to shrink and
crack while drying up.
-
Prior to blending grout, make sure that the powder
is good and there are no lumps.
-
Say, you have found lumps; do not think it’s okay to
use the grout. Dispose it. Lumps are found in grouts
when water or water vapor has penetrated it. In fact,
water does a chemical reaction to the grout.
-
It doesn’t do any good when you apply liquid acrylic
modifiers. Theoretically, at adds better durability to
your grout. But the hassle caused by them hardly offset
the benefits they pose.
-
Appropriate amount of water applied to the grout
helps it to mix well. So mind how much water you are
adding to it.
-
When excessive water is applied the grout becomes
brittle and unstable.
-
If you end up adding insufficient water to your
grout, it won’t do much good bridging gaps between
tiles. Here, it is safe to follow the instruction given
by the manufacturer.
-
When you’re done mixing the grout and find it
getting hard after a while, do not get moved away by
the urge of adding more water to it- this will kill the
grout’s performance. Rather, mix up some new
grouts.
-
While the grouted areas are being sponge cleaned,
exercise due care to make the sponge suck out all the
surplus water. Soaked sponge damages the grout.
-
Though it sounds easy to lay grouts in tiles, it
needs considerable experience. For some practice, lay
the tile on plywood. This helps you get ready for the
real world thing.
How to deal with loose grouts?
Some people spend huge bunch of dollars for getting the best
tiles money can buy. But when it comes to installing ceramic
tiles, they get their pals or cousins to install the tiles.
This, in most cases results in losses in future.

Laying tiles is easy and simple- at least after some
practice. But it becomes a pain in the neck when your flooring
surface starts to get loose. Even worse, the disintegrating
grouts/tiles start sounding hollow and afterwards get off from
your floor. Then the floor starts vanishing and large gaps are
left between tiles. Here is how you can shoot the trouble-
-
It is safer to go with licensed professionals to set
up the ceramic flooring.
-
Always remember that water and ‘only water’ is to be
used to install grouts.
-
Make sure the blend is free of lumps. At the end of
the mixture, you should have a nice pasty and rigid
stability.
-
The vital part of ceramic tiles comes after the
mixture is done. At this stage, you have to let the
grout "slack". This helps you a lot in allowing the
grout to get steady and bonded molecule by
molecule.
-
Let your grout slack for about 15 to 30 minutes
(this can vary according to humidity).
When used right, ceramic tile grouts add reinforcement to
your tile settings. May you have a happy grouting
experience!
